'network' - programme objectives

To gain a greater understanding of the issues involved in decision making to safeguard children.

Target group: Operational Managers who supervise practitioners and volunteers. Professionals working together on complex cases involving assessment, planning, intervention and review.

Delegates will have the opportunity to network with professionals from a variety of agencies to discuss what may hinder effective decision making locally. The course will consider EVERY CHILD MATTERS and the COMMON ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK to explore ways to improve working relationships and communication when safeguarding children.

Focuses:

• To explore the factors that may influence your decision-making.
• To identify roles and responsibilities as a manager while understanding the needs and perceptions of colleagues in partner agencies.
• Consider barriers to effective decisions and suggest sources of support, guidance and advice that will promote effective decision making in safeguarding a child’s well being.
• To work in a live ‘practice format’ with a parent to achieve a full assessment while maintaining focus on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child.

CH 4 WORKING TOGETHER TO SAFEGUARD CHILDREN

At the end of the module, delegates will:

• Be able to assess ways of working together on complex cases and ways in which the group process can influence and distort decision-making.
• Know how to deal with professional disagreement and know what to when there is insufficient response from other agencies and organizations.
• Know how to manage aggression and non-compliance in complex cases.
• Understand factors at an inter-personal, intra-personal and systemic level that influence the possibility of change
